Gravity

Your mass in kilograms stays the same everywhere. Your weight, the force of gravity on you in newtons, depends on where you are: G=m×g.

First stage of secondary schoolAges 12 to 14Draft: Not yet checked by a science teacher.

Why

Why could astronauts on the Moon jump so high and so slowly, with heavy equipment on their backs?

In films of the Moon landings you see astronauts hopping about as if they weighed almost nothing. Yet they were wearing a spacesuit and a backpack that together were about as heavy as they were.

They had not become lighter: there was just as much matter in their bodies as on Earth. The Moon simply pulled on them much less strongly than the Earth does.
